My writing process

I normally start with brainstorming.  I get the main idea of my paper and write it down in the center of a piece of paper, then I start drawing line from it to other supporting ideas.  Then I draw lines from  the supporting ideas to ideas that support those. I do this till I get the basis of my paragraphs sometimes those ideas get combined.
I then try to put them in some type of logical order.  I want the paper to flow well.  I then start to reword and redraft my paper to best convey what I am trying to get a cross to my readers.  I also will read it out loud to see how it sounds.  I always found it strange how in your mind what you write sounds fine till you read it.
I also write like I am now just kind of winging it.  I will go back and reread and fix as I go along.  Hopefully, I don't miss to much. I will also count and recount my words to make sure I get to the correct amount.  I wish this thing had a counter on it.  It would make it easier, although if I did not count every word, I most assuredly would have missed that extra space I put in by accident.

  1. Jeremy, I love the insights in this post. Our thinking doesn't always occur in complete sentences, so it sometimes comes out a little jumbled. And even if it comes out in a complete sentence, our way of thinking and expressing those thoughts might not make sense to someone else anyway! And yes, closely proofreading enables us to catch minor errors like extra spaces (though, you could copy-and-paste to or from MS Word to count the words). Keep up the good work!

  2. I like your idea of using the bubbles and drawing lines to supporting ideas, but for me that gets a bit clustered and confusing. I prefer to make an outline in word where I can move points around and organized them that way. I also like to read my papers aloud and have realized something that sounds fine in my head, doesn't make a congruent thought when I read it. As for the word count comment, I unfortunately just tonight caught our blogs are suppose to be between 200 and 250 words, as my previous ones have ran quite long. I tend to write my in Word which has a word count and then cut and paste them here. This can be done easily using Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V.
